Site: An attractive small site of just five detached Family
Houses. Around the site are slopes heavily planted with generally
mature deciduous trees creating a feeling of privacy within
the semi-rural environment. The Nant Cwm stream with waterfall
boarders the eastern boundary.
The location is a particularly convenient one with the excellent
local facilities of Heol-y-Cyw all within easy walking distance.
These include village shop, village Primary School, Church,
local pub, Rugby Club, etc. Helo-y-Cyw has become popular
in recent years and attracted good quality housing as evidence
by the recent small development of five individual detached
houses just up the road at “The Willows”.
The village enjoys a pleasantly rural location facing south
over the extensive countryside of Hirwaun Common with the
upland countryside of Mynydd-y-Gaer to the north. Despite
this pleasantly rural setting the village is well placed for
major centres with the excellent facilities of Bridgend just
a few minutes drive away. The good local road network brings
easy access to the M4 motorway and then to the Capital City
of Cardiff, Newport, Port Talbot, Swansea, etc.
Design Concept: The proposed detached dwellings have been
positioned on the site to provide both a pleasant outlook
form the dwellings and a small green area immediately on entering,
with the properties forming a small quadrant facing towards
the High Street. Each dwelling has been orientated to enjoy
a pleasant aspect with Plot 1 enjoying views of the small
waterfall.
The proposed designs feature reception rooms on both ground
and first floor levels, to provide maximum flexibility for
the demands of modern family living. The Master Bedroom is
also flexible in its location, as the facilities on both First
and Second floors can accommodate this requirement. In short
the Family Homes at “The Dell” provide an excellent
level of flexible accommodation for the growing family.
Materials: The proposed houses have been designed to complement
many of the typical local buildings utilizing facing brickwork
and brick plinths along with feature stone cill, heads and
copings. Natural or composite slate is proposed for the roofing
material.
Certification: All five of the detached Family Houses will
receive a full Architects Certificate and NHBC registration,
and will be ready early Spring 2007.
